Crooked, misaligned, chipped, decayed, and discolored teeth can distract from a beautiful smile and complicate basic processes, including speaking and chewing. At Dental@888 General and Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr. Hal Kussick and his team of specialists work with patients throughout Seattle, WA to attain gorgeous smiles through the use of cosmetic dental and orthodontic techniques. One of our specialties is customized fittings for porcelain veneers to fill out the teeth for a beautiful, confident smile.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are slim-shells made from medical-grade porcelain that are secured to the front of the teeth to cover malformations and improve the overall appearance of the teeth. At Dental@888 General and Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr. Kussick utilizes porcelain veneers to address teeth that are:

  • Chipped

  • Cracked

  • Decayed

  • Stained

  • crooked

  • Poorly shaped

Porcelain veneers can improve the size, color, length, and shape of the teeth without the hassle of invasive dental surgery.

Am I an ideal candidate for porcelain veneers?

Individuals are viable candidates for porcelain veneers if they:

  • Are in good, general health

  • Have overall healthy gums, teeth, and jawbone

  • Have cracked, chipped, malformed, decayed, or stained teeth

  • Have enough tooth surface for porcelain veneers to adhere effectively

Dr. Kussick will review your medical and dental history as well as thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, and jawbone to determine if porcelain veneers are an appropriate treatment path for you.

How do I get fitted for porcelain veneers?

Dr. Kussick first examines your teeth to see if they can effectively hold and benefit from veneers. If you decide that porcelain veneers are in line with your personal goals to improve your smile, Dr. Kussick will take digital impressions of your teeth that will be used to create customized porcelain veneers in our office or at one of our dental labs.

Are porcelain veneers permanent?

Porcelain veneers are not necessarily considered a permanent, cosmetic dental procedure. However, the process is irreversible since the enamel on the front of your teeth needs to be filed down to secure the veneers. Consult with Dr. Kussick to learn more about this portion of the treatment process.

What is the treatment process like?

Porcelain veneers are fitted during a same-day appointment at Dental@888 General and Aesthetic Dentistry in one of our private treatment rooms. Typically, patients do not require anesthesia, but our specialists have options to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Dr. Kussick will gently file down the enamel on the front of your teeth to even the surface and improve the bond for the veneers. Once your veneers are placed, you are free to return home.

Will my porcelain veneers appear natural?

Dr. Kussick selects porcelain veneers that match the natural color of your teeth. This prevents the veneers from appearing artificial while creating a fuller, gorgeous smile.

Is there any recovery time after getting my porcelain veneers?

Patients can resume normal, day-to-day activities almost immediately after their fitting session. Sensitivity to hot and cold foods for the next few days is normal but usually resolves on its own. Patients should clean their porcelain veneers just like they would their natural teeth with good dental hygiene practices at home.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

If patients care for their teeth, porcelain veneers have the potential to last 10 –15 years. To optimize the lifespan of your veneers, try:

  • Avoiding chewy, hard foods

  • Minimizing sugary foods and drinks

  • Brushing and flossing daily

  • Using mouthwash regularly

  • Attending regular dental checkups
